Painting with a high key light
Recently, I participated in a workshop with Peggi Kroll Roberts (www.krollroberts.com) and learned so much. One of the most enlightening parts of the three days was learning how to embrace painting with a strong single light source…like the sun. Heavy, strong shadows are the trademarks of this style of painting but there’s so much more to it. There is a lot going on in those shadows. The strong light source creates much reflected light bouncing back into the subject and creates great drama for the entire composition.
